Rovinj is a picturesque town in the North of Croatia on the Istrian peninsula. Rovinj made quite an impression on me with its beautiful colorful old town and the huge stone tower looming over the city from a top the hill. It reminds me strongly of Venice but with a flavor of its own. I had the best time walking round this ancient port city and would recommend it for anyone traveling to Croatia.
A walk around the old town and the Grisia neighborhood
The old town has no cars which makes the cobbled streets perfect for exploring. The many shops are filled with art galleries, artisan shops, cafe’s and Balbi’s Arch shows out the original entrance to the town. With enough time to explore I came across beautiful needle work and had painted fridge magnets for a different kind of souvenir. There are boutique wine shops where we had a great taste of Istrian wines paired with magnificent artisan chocolate. Looking for specialist shops selling truffles was another adventure and the taste of Istrian truffles blew me away.

Getting to the top and St. Euphemia’s Church
It’s a lovely stroll to the top of the town where St. Euphemia Church awaits you with spectacular views of Rovinj and beyond. Visiting on a Saturday, we encountered wedding party after wedding party waiting to say their vows in the church. From here you can see some of the 14 islands that make up the Rovinj Archipelago. Some of the islands are car free and boasts with great beaches and secret coves to explore.

Popular things to do
There’s something for everyone here in Rovinj. I liked sitting in a street cafe, watching the fishermen go about their day and exploring the art galleries and wine tasting. The Golden Cape Forest Park and Punta Corrente Forest Park is great for hiking and if you like even more outdoor activities there’s great kayaking and diving in the surrounds to do too. There’s also the Batana Museum and the Rovinj Heritage Museum, both worth a visit. There’s of course at least three beaches to choose from but if you’re looking for secret pebbled beaches and coves, try the Punta Corrente Forest Park. After a full day the best way to end the day is with a glass of Istrian wine overlooking the old town and the harbor.

Yes the food is amazing! The seafood is fresh and I had delicious pasta, I think it was Ariabatta but it had crispy bacon in and that was just so good 🙂 I did taste some truffle slivers too and I really enjoyed it.
