About me

Hi, I’m Lia, writer of The Nomadic Panda Blog.

Thank you for visiting my site. This blog started out as a place to share photos from my trips but has evolved into something more. I share destination travel guides from the great cities I’ve visited around the world but I am also working on including more local content in the future. Local for me means, Cape Town and the beautiful towns of the Cape Winelands like Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, the best places to eat, taste wine and hike.

I try to live my best life as creatively as possible.

How being South African impacts my travel life:

Well that’s easy.  It’s expensive (local currency not doing too good) and you have to apply (and pay a fortune) for a visa to go almost anywhere.  BUT it’s not too bad once you get the hang of THE TRAVEL BUDGET.  The secret is once you find some great travel resources, stick with them.

How I travel:

Best budget travel, solo travel, travel with friends/family, group travel, cultural activities like music, museums, food+drink, leisurely outdoor activities like (small) hikes and loafing on the beach, dancing.

I tend to want to go back to the same places, especially some that left an impression on me the first time.

Visit my Destinations page to see where I’ve been.

*Disclaimer and Copyright:Β  All photos and content on this blog are my own, unless stated otherwise. I own the copyright to the images I have taken myself please do not publish them as your own. Some of my blog articles with interactive maps are available for download on the GPSMyCity app for which I earn a small commission with no extra cost to you. I am also an affiliate member of booking.com, a booking service I use for all my trips and I earn a very small commission if you book a property via a link on my blog.

  1. I think it was Eliot who said that the point of travel was to return at last to the place you were first so as to see it clearly for the first time. I think this is especially true for any thinking South African. Keep up the good work!
